Poetry Response 4

I have read Alyssa and Maddi’s I Have Seen poems and they both very descriptive and well written. “I have smelt freshly mowed lawn” is an example of very good imerdry and I feel like I can almost smell it myself. Maddi had a really great poem. She used a lot of alliteration and nice use of words. She even had dialogue and nice repetition. “Happiness filling every visible object” is a really great metaphor, I really could  contemplate on the message that line is giving. Maddi went from a great start to a beautiful day to the sad truth of problems and worldly concerns. It was sad, but a really great twist. Maddi’s poem was very well written, I really enjoyed it! In Alyssa’s poem she really used great description and metaphors. “I have seen the fear in punched black eyes” is really, really descriptive and I really could imagine looking into someones beaten face. Her poem focused on sad and not being able to free yourself. Feeling lost. Feeling like nobody cares. Being broken. It really can relate to so many people. Teens, parents, kids, everyone. It was a really great poem. I actually read it 7 times over. The poem gives you something to contemplate on and realize that not everyone is doing okay. I really enjoyed reading both of these poems. They were really great, meaningful, and well writing. Good job guys!

Poetry Response 4

A Dream Within A Dream
By Edgar Allan Poe

The first paragraph has a lot of rhyming. Its A, A, A, B, B, C, C, D, D, E, E.
“In a night, or in a day,” These are opposite. “Wrong and who” are alliteration.
“Of a surf-tormented shore,” has some imagery. Repetition with “Oh God”. In the poem they ask a lot of questions. All in all there is a lot of alliteration and rhyming. He repeats “while I weep” in the same sentence. It has good rhythm.

“Why do I love” You, Sir?
By Emily Dickinson
The poem is explaining why he loves her. Its interesting how some of the lines ends with “and, by, then” She says sunrise twice in the last paragraph. There's just a lot of rhyming and interesting word use. I liked reading the poem, but I didn't fully understand it

Abstract Noun Poem

Sadness is a infinite blue day with dark shadows

Laughter is a sun firing yellow song with rainbow accents

Happiness is the cotton candy pink that melts in my mouth

Love is the blood red center of a passion fruit

Depression is the crispy black burnt corners of the toast

Limericks

There once was a girl named Mae
Shes the one I want forever to stay
 #Ilovehersomuch
#Wetrytostayintouch

There was a young girl named Peg
I took her to watch the ducks beg
She couldn't seen them in such a big crowd
so she got on my shoulders and yelled extreamly loud
But she fell and broke her leg

I went to State Farm one day
I happened to go on the day of the play
I payed a toll to get in
And I walked down the hallway to sit next to Justin
When the guy came on he had nothing to say

I Have Seen Poem

                                          Joy

I have seen the waves, splashing and thrashing
I have seen footprints in the sand and couples holding hands
Walking along the sunsetting  beach
Seagulls peaking at the sand
Barnacles grasping the rocks as hard as they can
while young children try there hardest to rip them off their home
Just because of curiosity

I have heard the birds singing to me
when I rest upon a mountain
with sea smelling breath blowing through my hair
I have heard beetles and bugs buzzing and playing and laughing
The sound of the rain pouring outside
The sound of the night
Which you may think the night don't have a sound
but it is the glorious of all

I’d rather be in the city? No
I’m here and this is home
I don’t need big buildings and lights
I’m happy with the stars and open skies
I don’t need lots of people and fame
I’m happy with love and my best friend
So why is nature a bucket full of joy?
Because

I have felt white water pushing me in
I have felt mud in between my toes
I have felt your warm arm around me
I have felt the galaxy
I have felt the rain soaking my body
I have felt the sun burning and browning it
I have felt happiness and
I have felt joy and
I’m never leaving it

Where the Sidewalk Ends
By Shel Silverstein

First of all, there is a lot of repetition. In the first paragraph, white & bright are an exact rhyme. Alliteration with “grass grows” and “sun burns crimson bright” is really descriptive and a lot of imagery. The second paragraph has alliteration with “blows black” and “where the smoke blows black” is imagery and very descriptive. Grow and slow and go and bends and ends are exact rhymes.”We’ll walk with a walk” is alliteration. Slow, go, know are exact rhymes. “For the children” and  “and the children” is word play, but also repetition. All in all, the poem was very descriptive and I could really see images in my head. It has really good flow and its extremely fun to read. A lot of rhyming and alliteration and word play. I think its a metaphor about leaving your problems and worries behind and starting fresh where the green grass grows. Starting over. Beginning again. Everyone gets a second chance. Maybe, leaving this nasty world and creating your own. A wonderful place where everything's right. You can interpret it in different ways, but I really liked the poem. I really enjoy reading Shel Silverstein, he poems make me happy. There really easy to read and fun and usually funny.

Poem Response 2

The Secrets We Hide
By Tiffany Franklin
I could really relate to the poem. I think anyone could. “we struggle to have meaning on this world.” Everyone struggles to know who they are and what they are doing. What does anything mean? What are we supposed to do in life? Everyone has these and other questions at some point in their life. People may think or try to make it seem like they  know what their doing, but honestly no one can predict the future. No one knows what's going to happen tomorrow. Know one knows who they will meet or who they will run into. No one knows who you're not going to know in a year from now. Or more. No one knows who you will still know. I have had a lot of really great friends. Most I thought we would be close forever. I have fallen farther apart from all of them. People change. We change. I have changed. Were all different. Except one. One person that . has always been there. My best friend. Everyone needs someone who is always there. SOme of the stuff I have been through I wouldn't have made it without that one person. I see it like, at some point in life everyone will fall apart. Everyone will feel lost and broken and not know where to go. Honestly you control your own life. Being happy and being sad is all up to you. Its good to have a balance, but dealing with one of the extremes is way too much to handle. Dealing with life is up to you. Take it one step at a time, laugh, breath, spend time doing what you want. This poem let me contemplate on life. I really enjoyed it. The poem had a lot of alliteration and approximate rhyme. It could be from the perspective of a wise person or maybe a “creator” who knows the secret of the world.

Response Poem 1

Why
By Helen Grandison
Honestly, why do we do what we do when it will all be over someday?
I don’t know about you, but I wanna have a great life. If we have been blessed to live then why waste it? Its not like we get more lives.  We frown when things are not right because frowning is expressing anger or sadness. Just like smiling is expressing that you’re happy. Emotions are expressing how you feel in your body. We question what shouldn’t be questioned because even if we know the answer or know why we shouldn't ask we want to hear it from them.
We want to see the story in different ways. We want to know different opinions. Kind of how we want to know different opinions on life and how to deal. Its like everything in life is up to you. Your future depends on the decisions you make now. All these “why” questions... We do these things because we want to live and live happily. A lot of repetition,  as me and Alyssa would say “hella rep”. The poem had a lot of meaning and thought. “Why do we cry when someday it will be alright?” I think we cry because even though deep down we know it will be over someday, we want to express the emotions that are building up inside us. Crying is good for you.
